Pianist Guy Murgatroyd, achieved notable competition success in his home counties of Hampshire and Berkshire, including winner of Hart Young Musician 2012, Farnham Competitive Music Festival 2012 and Finalist in The 2013 North London piano festival before setting out to continue his studiesat the Birmingham Conservatoire.
Now in his third year, Guy has performed frequently across the West Midlands as a soloist, chambermusician and accompanist. Guy also has a strong passion for piano accompaniment – in particular vocal accompaniment – for which he was recently awarded a garland of prizes. He also assists many of the weekly song classes at the Conservatoire and also enjoys a strong relationship with the composition department. Whilst his main piano tutor is Victor Sangiorgio, Guy has also played in recent master classes for Paul Berkowitz, William Fong, Julian Jacobson, Martin Jones and Peter Donohoe.
Recent solo performances include All Saint’s Church, Fleet, Hampshire (Sept ’13), St Augustine’s Edgbaston (Oct ’13 & May ‘14), Birmingham Cathedral (Nov ’13) and Edgbaston Old Church (Sept ’14). Recent performances as accompanist include Birmingham Conservatoire John Ireland Prize (Jan ’14), the Edward Brookes Lieder Prize (Jan ’14), Sodylt Hall, Oswestry (Sept’14) and Birmingham Conservatoire Skryabin and the Russians festival (Feb’15).
